Some Kind Words on My Novella

February 2, 2012 by Ken

“The Man Who Ended History: A Documentary” is the work that I’m most proud of.

I’ve been really moved and honored by some of the recent comments on it from other writers.

  • Aliette de Bodard recommended it.

  • Jamie Todd Rubin posted about it here.

  • Michael A. Burstein wrote about it here. Michael is the author of “Kaddish for the Last Survivor”, which I greatly admired.

  • Rachel Swirsky discussed it in her 2011 novella recommendations.

I feel very luck as a member of the speculative fiction communities in English and Chinese. The best part of this business is writing about something important to you and then be understood.

The Man Who Ended History

January 6, 2012 by Ken

Thanks to Panverse and Dario Ciriello, my novella, “The Man Who Ended History: A Documentary,” is now available for download as a free PDF.

I’m really proud of this work, and if you’re interested in nominating one of my works for an award, this is the one (it belongs to the novella category).

Other works from me eligible for an award nomination may be found here.

2011

December 31, 2011 by Ken

2011 was a really good year for me. I broke into some great markets, published one story I’m really proud of, translated a few good Chinese stories, and got to know some wonderful writers who I now consider friends.

I just about doubled my submissions, and more than doubled my acceptances. So that’s an improvement.

2012 will be about finishing the novel(s) and getting started on that novel I really want to write. I hope it will be even better than 2011.

And I hope the same is true for you.

Music of the Spheres, Illustrated

December 15, 2011 by Ken

“Music of the Spheres” is going to be the cover story for the January 2012 issue of 科幻世界 / Science Fiction World. The editors were kind enough to share with me the cover image and an illustration done for it.

I’m always grateful to the illustrators who provide art for my stories: they give my words a new interpretation that I couldn’t have come up with on my own.

Fireside Magazine

December 6, 2011 by Ken

This is a pretty interesting time for the publishing industry: new business models, new media, new challenges and opportunities.

Brian White, a self-described “committed word nerd,” is trying something new: a magazine of short fiction that has no genre limits. The only requirement for stories being that “they are the kind that make pages turn like they are being blown in the wind.”

Fireside is now running a Kickstarter campaign to get funding from crowd sourcing. We can certainly use your help.

Contributors to the first issue include Tobias S. Buckell, D.J. Kirkbride, Adam P. Knave, Chuck Wendig, Christie Yant, Amy Houser, and me. If you back us, we’ll even sign your copies :)

Thanks for your support. You’re the ones keeping storytelling alive.
